The Tailor's Art: Making Clothing and Making a Living in 18th Century New England

Henry Cooke, master tailor of Colonial dress, will present his trade at Quincy Homestead on Saturday, July 15 from 11-2.  The program is "The Tailor's Art: Making Clothing and Making a Living in 18th century New England" Cooke will discuss how men's and women's clothing was made, and the intersections of tailoring with fashion, the local economy and international trade that put English woolens on the backs of Colonial farmers and tradesmen. Visitors will see how clothing was made, including measuring, selection of fabrics, cutting, sewing, fitting and finishing.  Tours of the Homestead will also be available, with a suggested donation of $10.
